Dr. Ledley has been the president of the National Biomedical Research Foundation since its inception in 1960.

1990	The National Inventors Hall of Fame, -- inducted for the invention of the whole-body CT scanner, Patent No.: 3,922,552
1990	Georgetown University, -- awarded the Vicennial Gold Medal for Distinguished Service.
1997	The National Medal of Technology -- awarded by the President of the United States of America to Robert S. Ledley for pioneering contributions to biomedical computing and engineering, including inventing the whole-body CT scanner which revolutionized the practice of radiology and for his role in developing automated chromosome analysis for prenatal diagnosis of birth defects.
1998	The National Institute of Dental Research of NIH -- awarded a certificate of appreciation in recognition of significant contributions to the advancement of biomedical research, informatics, the dental and medical professions, and the health of the American people presented on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Institute (June 24, 1948-1998) on June 9, 1998.
1998	The Goldhaber Award from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine -- awarded for exemplary leadership in research, particularly in developing computerized tomography.
1998	The Morris E. Collen, M.D. Award from the American College of Medical Informatics -- awarded its highest award for lifetime achievements and contributions to the discipline of Medical Informatics to those who attainments have throughout their careers substantially advanced the art and science of Medical Informatics.
1999	The Distinguished Alumni of New York University, 1999 -- this award is presented in recognition of his remarkable achievements as a researcher, writer, and inventor, in bringing digital computer engineering and computational methods to the study of medicine.
